Cub Scout Roundtable What: The mission of the Cub Scout Roundtable is to provide quality resources, knowledge and skills to unit leaders to enable them to deliver an outstanding program to their Cub Scout packs and dens. Why: The Roundtable meetings are excellent opportunities for Scout leaders (both program and committee) to gather ideas to bring back to their units to provide enjoyable programs, to learn how to find (and often get handed to them) resources for expanding or improving activities, to keep up on the latest news for upcoming district and council events, and (probably most importantly) to get a chance to talk with other leaders. This communication between units allows leaders to compare notes on the activities of their various units: what different camps have to offer, what are local hiking and camping conditions, activities that worked well or maybe even ones that did not, contacts with people who have the skills and knowledge to enhance a planned program or to build a program around, and much more. When: Roundtable meetings in the South Coast District are held on the second Thursday of every month except August. Meetings begin at 7:00pm and usually end by 8:45pm. Where: We meet in the multipurpose room of the LDS church building at 2107 Santa Barbara St. If you park in the main parking are behind the church, go up the main stairs in the center and turn right down the hal after entering the building. The meeting room is on the right hand side about half way down. Who: It is recommended that each unit have at least three representatives at all Roundtable meetings, but all Cub Scout leaders are encouraged to attend. This includes Cubmasters, Assistant Cubmasters, Den Leaders, committee members, and interested parents. The Roundtable meeting is structured similar to a Cub Scout den or pack meeting. It starts with a pre-opening (gathering) activity, an opening ceremony, the program feature, announcements of upcoming events, a closing ceremony, and refreshments. The program features for the last four months of 2005 include: September 8: To the Rescue - the monthly theme for October meetings. October 13: My Family Tree- the monthly theme for November meetings. November 10: Faith, Hope, and Charity- the monthly theme for December meetings. December 8: Pinewood Derby - rules and tips to make your Pack competition fun and exciting and information on the District-wide derby. Cub Scouts Spread the News - the monthly theme for January meetings.
